Frequently asked questions.
Do I need an Aged Care Assessment (ACAT) to come to Highfields Manor?
Yes, an Aged Care Assessment (ACAT) is required to determine eligibility for residential aged care, including at Highfields Manor. The assessment helps identify the level of care and support that best suits the needs of each individual. This is organised through the Australian Government and involves a health professional evaluating care needs and discussing available options with you and your family.
If you need assistance with arranging an ACAT assessment or have questions about the process, our team at Highfields Manor is here to help guide you.
If the financial side of things are too complicated for me to understand, can you help?
Absolutely, we understand that navigating the financial aspects of aged care can feel overwhelming. At Highfields Manor, our team is here to support you through each step. We can provide information on fees, government subsidies, and payment options, and help you understand how they may apply to your situation.
Additionally, we can connect you with trusted financial advisors who specialise in aged care if you need more in-depth assistance. Our goal is to make the financial process as clear and manageable as possible so you can focus on finding the best care for your loved one.
Can I move in before my home sells?
Yes, at Highfields Manor, we understand that selling a home can be a lengthy process. We offer flexibility for residents who may need to move in before their home sells. This can help alleviate some of the stress during the transition to aged care.
We can discuss options such as temporary arrangements or support with your move to ensure a smooth transition. Our team is here to work with you and your family to find a solution that meets your needs while you navigate the sale of your home. Please feel free to reach out for more specific details on how we can assist you.
What is a Deferred Management Fee (DMF), and how does it affect me?
A Deferred Management Fee (DMF) is a common fee structure used in many aged care facilities, to manage the costs associated with providing care. Here’s how it typically works and how it may affect you:
What is a Deferred Management Fee (DMF)?
- Definition: A DMF is a fee that is charged to residents for the use of the facility’s services and amenities. This fee is usually paid upon leaving the facility rather than as a regular, ongoing expense.
- Calculation: The DMF is often calculated as a percentage of the resident’s entry fee or the market value of the room when they leave. This percentage can vary depending on the facility and the length of stay.
How Does it Affect You?
- Cost Management: The DMF allows residents to pay lower upfront costs when entering the facility, which can make the transition to aged care more financially accessible.
- Final Settlement: When you leave the facility, the DMF is deducted from the sale of your room or from the remaining balance of your bond. This means you will receive the proceeds of the sale minus the DMF.
- Impact on Estate: Since the DMF is deducted when you leave, it can affect the total amount left to your estate or beneficiaries. It’s important to factor this into any financial planning you do.
- Transparency: Before moving in, it’s crucial to fully understand the DMF structure of the facility. We encourage residents and their families to review the facility’s information booklet and ask questions about how the DMF is calculated, when it is payable, and how it impacts your overall financial situation.
At Highfields Manor, we want to ensure you are well-informed about all financial aspects, including the DMF. If you have further questions or need help understanding how it specifically applies to your circumstances, our team is here to provide clarity and support.
How do I know if my loved one is eligible for aged care?
To determine if your loved one is eligible for aged care in Australia, including at Highfields Manor, you can follow these steps:
1. Contact the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT)
- The first step is to organise an assessment through the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). This team consists of health professionals who evaluate your loved one’s care needs.
- You can initiate this process by calling the Aged Care Information Line at 1800 200 422 or visiting the Australian Government’s My Aged Care website to make a referral.
2. Assessment Process
- During the assessment, ACAT will review your loved one’s medical history, current health conditions, and any support they may require with daily activities.
- The assessment can take place at home, in a hospital, or in an aged care facility, depending on your loved one’s situation.
3. Eligibility Determination
- Based on the assessment, ACAT will determine the level of care required and whether your loved one is eligible for different types of aged care services, such as home care, residential care, or respite care.
4. Receive Approval and Options
- If your loved one is deemed eligible, you will receive an approval letter outlining the services they are eligible for, along with a care plan tailored to their needs.
- The letter will provide information on how to access the appropriate services, including our facility, Highfields Manor.
5. Support from Our Team
- If you have questions about the eligibility process or need assistance with arranging the ACAT assessment, our team at Highfields Manor is here to help guide you through the process and provide support.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your loved one receives the appropriate assessment and care they need. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
